DR LAUREN Zeuschner, from Federation University, recently completed a three-year research project challenging the approach to family violence intervention.<\/p>\n
The study offers critical, survivor-led insights demanding a re-evaluation of current support systems.<\/p>\n
Dr Zeuschner undertook a research placement at a family violence service for women, sparking her passion for collaborative social work research.<\/p>\n
This led to her doctoral research, completed through an academic-industry research partnership in the Ballarat region, in collaboration with the family violence team at a child and family services agency.<\/p>\n
“When I heard about the impact on women when men are referred to intervention programs but don’t attend, I want to look further,” said Dr Zeuschner.<\/p>\n
“Unfortunately, despite a high referral rate, men often don’t attend behavioural programs and the impact on women can be devastating.<\/p>\n
“They lose hope and blame themselves.<\/p>\n
“We need to improve the administration process, support the victims and continue to listen to the women.<\/p>\n
“The voices of women directly impacted by these programs are undeniable.<\/p>\n
“Their experiences are essential for reshaping services, ensuring programs truly foster long-term change in perpetrators, and, most importantly, create lasting safety for survivors and their children.<\/p>\n
“We can and must do better.”<\/p>\n
The research is set to directly influence policymakers and service providers, driving urgent, survivor-centred improvements in family violence prevention and support across Australia.<\/p>\n
Dr Zeuschner will continue to work with local providers to improve family violence intervention outcomes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
