{"id":114787,"date":"2025-08-11T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-10T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=114787"},"modified":"2025-08-06T18:56:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T08:56:12","slug":"station-event-aims-to-make-transport-access-simpler","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/station-event-aims-to-make-transport-access-simpler\/","title":{"rendered":"Station event aims to make transport access simpler"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PEOPLE of all abilities will have a chance to familiarise themselves with the different modes of public transport when a Try Before You Ride event takes place at the Ballarat Station next week.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees at the Thursday 14 August event will also learn about upgrades underway at the station, while having opportunities to practice boarding and exiting different forms of transport.<\/p>\n<p>They will be able to speak with Level Crossing Removal Project staff delivering the station upgrade and will take a tour to learn how the project will improve accessibility, safety, and connectivity for transport users.<\/p>\n<p>To be hosted jointly by V\/Line, the City of Ballarat and the Level Crossing Removal Project, the event will run from 10.30am to 11.30am and is being supported by Public Transport Victoria, the Dysons Group bus company, and Silver Top Taxis.<\/p>\n<p>An accessible coach, a low-floor bus and a wheelchair-accessible taxi will be available for participants to try outside the station, along with different mobility aids.<\/p>\n<p>They will also be able to attend a session with Travellers Aid representatives, who will provide information about their services.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This event is an opportunity for people to boost their confidence when using public transport,&#8221; V\/Line customer services and accessibility director Michael Brady said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s important to give people the time and support they need to become familiar with the different modes of transport.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The invitation is open to everyone \u2013 people with accessibility requirements, parents with children, older people, as well as occasional or regular travellers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Level Crossing Removal Project program director Steve Brown said the Ballarat Station upgrade will improve safety and accessibility, making it easier for people with a disability \u2013 as well as passengers with prams and luggage \u2013 to move around the station.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a great opportunity for people to get a better understanding of all the design benefits that will improve access to the station, including passenger lifts and a pedestrian overpass, and the recently-completed northern entrance featuring a ramp, handrails and automatic swing doors,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>More information and registration is available at <a href=\"http:\/\/ptv.vic.gov.au\/more\/travelling-on-the-network\/accessibility\/try-before-you-ride\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ptv.vic.gov.au\/more\/travelling-on-the-network\/accessibility\/try-before-you-ride<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PEOPLE of all abilities will have a chance to familiarise themselves with the different modes of public transport when a Try Before You Ride event takes place at the Ballarat Station next week.
