A DRAG Bingo fundraising event on Friday 22 August is promising laughter, nonsense and prizes galore for a cause.<\/p>\n

Hosted by Ballarat drag queens Gabriella Labucci (Season 3 runner-up of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under) and Daisy Chains, the Drag Bingo night at North Ballarat Sports Club will raise funds for gender-affirming surgery.<\/p>\n

“It is set to be a truly unforgettable experience,” said Zerene Jaadwa, of OUTLET Studio Ballarat which is co-organising the event.<\/p>\n

“We’re organising a heartwarming and vibrant community event.<\/p>\n

“Each year, Gabriella and her team rally behind a member of our local queer community to raise funds for gender-affirming surgery.<\/p>\n

“This year, we are honoured to support a much-loved Ballarat community member known for their warmth, humour, and tireless advocacy in creating inclusive spaces.<\/p>\n

“After more than a decade on their gender journey, they have not yet been able to access the surgery they need due to financial barriers.<\/p>\n

“Our goal is to raise $15,000, and we hope to raise at least half of that on the night.”<\/p>\n

Ahead of the event, Labucci said that while gender-affirming surgery was currently classified as “cosmetic,” it was anything but.<\/p>\n

“I think it’s important to help people in this position. It sucks because they have to spend so much money to be able to live as their authentic self,” Labucci said.<\/p>\n

“It isn’t a cosmetic procedure. It’s a procedure that’s going to help save people’s life. It’s the least we can do to help.<\/p>\n

“The main message is you are going to be promised laughter and a lot of nonsense. Its going to be a great.”<\/p>\n

Besides four rounds of cheeky Drag Bingo, the event promises four side-splitting drag performances, face painting, pet portraits and glitter tattoos, a silent auction featuring big-ticket items from generous sponsors, trivia and prizes with pub meals and drinks available throughout.<\/p>\n

Organisers say it will be a “powerful night of community coming together to celebrate identity, inclusion, and pride.”<\/p>\n

“Tables of 10 are available or folks can come solo with everyone welcome and 100 percent of proceeds going directly to the recipient.”<\/p>\n
