THE Federal and State governments have announced joint funding for Central Highlands Water’s Forest Hill Water Supply Connection Project.<\/p>\n
The $600,000 will allow Central Highlands Water to investigate opportunities to connect Allendale, Broomfield, Kingston, Newlyn, Smeaton and Springmount to the Ballarat water supply network.<\/p>\n
Currently water for the six towns is sourced from groundwater, which is subject to restrictions during dry periods.<\/p>\n
Local groundwater is in significant demand.<\/p>\n
“I’m pleased to be able to partner with the Albanese Labor Government to deliver these projects that not only improve water quality in our regions but prepare us for population growth and the challenges of living with a drying climate,” Member for Ripon Martha Haylett said.<\/p>\n
A connection to the Ballarat system would increase security and climate resilience for 1200 residents and allow existing groundwater resources to be considered for other uses.<\/p>\n
The funding will allow Central Highlands Water to develop a business case over the next year to inform future decisions.<\/p>\n
“This business case is the first step in ensuring that water supply is more reliable and resilient for both the people living in these communities and the farms and industry operating in the area,” Member for Ballarat Catherine King said.<\/p>\n
