{"id":115485,"date":"2025-09-02T17:10:35","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T07:10:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/roosters-to-appeal-after-being-kicked-out-of-bfnl-reserves-finals\/"},"modified":"2025-09-02T17:10:35","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T07:10:35","slug":"roosters-to-appeal-after-being-kicked-out-of-bfnl-reserves-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/roosters-to-appeal-after-being-kicked-out-of-bfnl-reserves-finals\/","title":{"rendered":"Roosters to appeal after being kicked out of BFNL reserves finals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NORTH Ballarat has sensationally been booted from the BFNL reserves finals series, after being found to have played ineligible players in last weekend\u2019s elimination final against Sebastopol.<\/p>\n<p><p>A complaint lodged with the BFNL following Sunday\u2019s clash at Eastern Oval \u2013 won by the Roosters by 20 points \u2013 was upheld on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><p>In a statement released to the media on Tuesday afternoon, the BFNL said North Ballarat had been determined to be in breach of BFNL Football Bylaws 46.1.7 and 6.2 and, subsequently, Section 1.1 of the AFL Vic Country Rules.<\/p>\n<p><p>The match was awarded to Sebastopol.<\/p>\n<p><p>With a spot in this Saturday\u2019s second semi-final against Sunbury at stake, North Ballarat has confirmed it will appeal the decision, with paperwork to be lodged with AFL Goldfields on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cAs it stands right now, we don\u2019t think we have done anything wrong and we will be appealing the decision,\u201d Roosters CEO Patrick Thornton said.<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cIt would be disappointing for the boys to miss out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><p>Following third-placed Bacchus Marsh\u2019s elimination in the first week of finals by Darley, Sebastopol currently holds two chances of making the premiership decider under the BFNL\u2019s final six system.<\/p>\n<p><p>The BFNL\u2019s full statement appears below.<\/p>\n<p><p><EM>\u201cOn Monday 1 September, the Ballarat Football Netball League (BFNL) received a complaint regarding the eligibility of players in the North Ballarat Football Netball Club\u2019s Reserves team during the Elimination Final on Sunday 31 August.<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cFollowing an investigation and review of submissions, the BFNL Board has determined that North Ballarat FNC is in breach of BFNL Football Bylaws 46.1.7 and 6.2 and, subsequently, Section 1.1 of the AFL Vic Country Rules.<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cIn accordance with Section 1.1(a) of the AFL Vic Country Rules, the North Ballarat FNC Reserves team have had their match points reversed and all points for that game lost, thereby forfeiting their place in the 2025 BFNL finals series.<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cAs per Section 1 of the AFL Vic Country Rules, North Ballarat FNC has the right to appeal this decision to AFL Goldfields.\u201d<\/EM><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NORTH Ballarat has sensationally been booted from the BFNL reserves finals series, after being found to have played ineligible players in last weekend\u2019s elimination final against Sebastopol.
