{"id":116415,"date":"2025-10-10T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=116415"},"modified":"2025-10-08T18:51:03","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T07:51:03","slug":"ballarat-bowls-shines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/ballarat-bowls-shines\/","title":{"rendered":"Ballarat bowls shines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SATURDAY turned on a perfect Spring afternoon to welcome bowlers back to the greens for another season of bowls.<\/p>\n<p>City Oval&#8217;s Ian Robinson was pleased with the club&#8217;s start in securing wins in their two top divisions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a long afternoon for some of the bowlers getting back on the greens after recent cold weather,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Pleasingly, we had wins in our two top divisions overcoming Ballarat East in Division 1 whilst our Division 3 travelled to BMS and took on what I consider was strong opposition on paper but managed a comfortable win in the end.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Playing at home our Division 1 enjoyed a comfortable win with three rinks up and the Ben Morris rink set this up winning by 25 shots and ably supported by the rinks of Gavin Mann and Sarah Braybrook.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/10\/IMG_99641_31108.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"418\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">John Rowland, David Flintoft and Mick Hampson finish up from their rink where City Oval&#8217;s Ian Robinson lead the side to an overall win over BMS by 27 shots with 3 rinks up from the afternoon&#8217;s play.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hosting Midlands in the Division 5 match saw both clubs take home a draw with each club having two rinks up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our division 6 and 8 sides travelled out of town to Waubra and Beaufort respectively where they met strong opposition who took the points on the day,&#8221; said Mr Robinson.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, I consider we recruited some good players into the club who have strengthened all our divisional sides and we look forward to the Club having a good season of bowls.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sebastopol&#8217;s Rob Baker was pleased with their club&#8217;s Division 1 success in the opening game against last year&#8217;s premiers, Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We shot out in the first two ends winning in all rinks before Victoria came back into the game and went in a few shots up at the afternoon tea break,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/10\/IMG_99721_31133.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"438\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">City Oval&#8217;s Jamie Winton leads strongly for his skipper Chris Smith ensuring their rink&#8217;s success with 15 shots up helping City Oval take an overall 94 shots and 3 rinks up win over BMS who managed 67 shots.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the final afternoon session our teams consolidated, winning consistently in the final play that allowed us to finish the match with a comfortable win and three rinks up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a mix of results for the club on Saturday with the club narrowly winning our home game over Ballan in Division 5 but unfortunately our Division 3 and 6 teams lost to Ballarat and Webbcona respectively.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our Division 7 side had the Bye of the round and our 8 side had a walkover.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SATURDAY turned on a perfect Spring afternoon to welcome bowlers back to the greens for another season of bowls.
