WORK is underway along Grenville Street North to create a new shared path which will link Mair Street and the Bridge Mall.<\/p>\n
Wendouree contractor Butler Excavations will complete the works that will eventually connect central Ballarat to the Yarrowee River Trail and Brown Hill track.<\/p>\n
The project is funded with $435,000 from the State Government’s safe systems road infrastructure program and $550,000 from the City of Ballarat.<\/p>\n
“This project is another example of how we’re building a city that works for everyone, whether you’re commuting by bike, walking with your family, or simply enjoying the outdoors,” mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves said.<\/p>\n
“We’re investing in safer streets, greener spaces and better connections.”<\/p>\n
The works include a 2.5-metre-wide shared path with two raised pedestrian crossings, road and parking realignment, street lighting upgrades, tree planting and garden beds, an accessible parking bay, and street furniture.<\/p>\n
“We’re pleased to be partnering with the City of Ballarat to deliver safer connections along this crucial stretch in the heart of Ballarat,” Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison said.<\/p>\n
“It’s what the systems road infrastructure program is all about, providing life-saving infrastructure that will help more people get home safely.”<\/p>\n
The project includes two stages, and the first stage of construction is expected to occur until early December.<\/p>\n
