MOGAHID Ahmed brings over eight years of legal experience with him as he takes up the role of director of legal with Ballarat’s Allied Justice.<\/p>\n
Mr Ahmed said he was drawn to the organisation’s integrated services model combining legal and non-legal supports to address the underlying causes of legal problems.<\/p>\n
“Equal access to justice is at the heart of my work,” said Mr Ahmed whose legal experience spans civil, corporate, and summary crime, with expertise in community law, Aboriginal justice, and disaster-related legal assistance.<\/p>\n
“Too often, people in regional and rural communities face the highest barriers to justice while being in the greatest need.<\/p>\n
“The integrated model at Allied Justice is a powerful and innovative way of responding, by working collectively to tackle both the legal issues and the social challenges people face.”<\/p>\n
Mr Ahmed will now lead Allied Justice’s legal team, focusing on strengthening the integrated approach, fostering trusted community connections, and advocating for lasting positive change.<\/p>\n
To the task he brings background experience working in Victoria and the Northern Territory in roles combing legal and systemic advocacy and community engagement.<\/p>\n
He has represented clients in matters involving family violence, housing, summary crime, mental health, and civil law, and has led advocacy on nationally significant issues.<\/p>\n
While working as a corporate lawyer for the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress Mr Ahmed played a key role in defending the organisation’s right to use the Aboriginal Flag in its logo, his advocacy helping to secure a federal resolution on a matter of great cultural and national importance.<\/p>\n
Allied Justice CEO Narelle Laing said Mr Ahmed’s leadership “will guarantee that Allied Justice continues to stand alongside our community, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background or postcode, can access the justice they deserve.”<\/p>\n
