{"id":116821,"date":"2025-10-29T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=116821"},"modified":"2025-10-23T17:01:51","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T06:01:51","slug":"young-love-to-unfold-on-stage-in-bell-shakespeare-performance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/living\/young-love-to-unfold-on-stage-in-bell-shakespeare-performance\/","title":{"rendered":"Young love to unfold on stage in Bell Shakespeare performance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WORLD renowned Bell Shakespeare theatre company brings its raw and intimate production of Romeo and Juliet to Her Majesty&#8217;s on Thursday 6 November as part of its three-month, twenty-six venue national tour.<\/p>\n<p>The critically acclaimed production, originally staged in 2023 and directed by Peter Evans, gives audiences a closer look at arguably Shakespeare&#8217;s most famous play, delving into the intensity and heartbreak of the evocative tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>Newcomers Madeline Li and Ryan Hodson will perform as the star-crossed lovers, joined onstage by Jack Halabi (Paris), Khisraw Jones-Shukoor (Friar), Brittany Santariga (Mercutio), Michael Wahr (Capulet) and Adinia Wirasti (Lady Capulet).<\/p>\n<p>Evans said after such a positive reception in 2023, he&#8217;s excited to take Romeo and Juliet further afield so audiences across the country can experience it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This early tragedy from Shakespeare is a perennial favourite and endlessly fascinating,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Romeo and Juliet is of course the saddest of sad plays but also one of the funniest and naughtiest tragedies ever written.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is a tragedy of accidents where a community&#8217;s selfish, ancient feud fatally impacts the young people.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got a fantastic cast who are coming at this classic story with a fresh and infectious energy that you won&#8217;t want to miss.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The creative team includes set and costume designer Anna Tregloan, lighting designer Benjamin Cisterne, composer and sound Designer Max Lyandvert, associate fight director Thomas Royce-Hampton and choreographer Simone Sault.<\/p>\n<p>Bell Shakespeare&#8217;s production of Romeo and Juliet takes place on Thursday 6 November at 7.30pm at Her Majesty&#8217;s Theatre Ballarat.
