ROAD safety works at two high-risk intersections have commenced.<\/p>\n
The City of Ballarat is working in partnership with the Federal Government through the Black Spot Program to upgrade the intersection of Greenhalghs Road and Finchs Road, Bunkers Hill and at the Avenue of Honour and Hendersons Road, Burrumbeet.<\/p>\n
The projects received more than $2.6 million in Federal Government funding.<\/p>\n
“I would ask drivers to be patient, take care and drive to the conditions in these areas while the roadworks underway,” Member for Ballarat Catherine King said.<\/p>\n
“The Albanese Government has significantly increased funding for the Black Spots Program, and I encourage community members to nominate a local road or intersection that they feel is dangerous and in need of a safety upgrade.”<\/p>\n
Works at Greenhalghs Road and Finchs Road will include construction of a roundabout with splitter islands, raised safety platforms, new lighting, line-marking and minor drainage.<\/p>\n
The project is expected to be completed by February 2026.<\/p>\n
A roadside memorial which is located at the intersection will be protected throughout the works.<\/p>\n
Previous works completed at the intersection include the installation of rumble strips in and upgraded signs in 2023 and the reduction of the speed limit on Greenhalghs Road in 2024.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year, reconstruction works were completed on Finchs Road, between Bells Road and Greenhalghs Road.<\/p>\n
Works along the Avenue of Honour at Burrumbeet began on Monday and will include widening the pavement, installing splitter islands, rumble strips and raised safety platforms as well as improving signage and lighting.<\/p>\n
Two trees will be replaced and aligned with existing trees, and the name plaques will also be located.<\/p>\n
The municipality is working with the Arch of Victory\/Avenue of Honour Committee and has obtained a Heritage Victoria permit.<\/p>\n
It is expected the works will be completed by the end of December.<\/p>\n
Traffic management will be in place in both locations and the City of Ballarat has spoken with local landowners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
