DEGROWTH and cohousing are the focus of a free information session taking place next Saturday 15 November.<\/p>\n

Ballarat Degrowth are hosting the free session from 10.30am to 3pm at Barkly Square.<\/p>\n

“I think a lot of people are interested in how we can step away from creating wealth for the very few and instead create a better life through community,” the group’s Maggie Dannatt said.<\/p>\n

“Ballarat has some great resources already doing this and we would like to take a step further with cohousing.<\/p>\n

“We hope to inform people about the local, national and international degrowth movement, why it’s important, and how we can implement it.”<\/p>\n

Ms Dannatt said aims of the degrowth movement is to ensure every person’s needs are met, “while keeping within the limits of the finite resources of our planet.”<\/p>\n

“We also want to share the possibilities of cohousing in alignment with degrowth principles of sharing, living and working together, saving resources, providing for the basic need of shelter, and creating stronger connections for a caring community,” she said.<\/p>\n

Degrowth Ballarat’s Liz Wade said next Saturday’s session will look at what the Degrowth Ballarat team are already working on with regard to cohousing in Ballarat.<\/p>\n

“We welcome anyone curious to come along and we love to have new people joining our local group, and the wider Degrowth Network Australia,” Ms Wade said.<\/p>\n

“We’ll explain what the cohousing model is all about, and look at some specific examples from Melbourne, around Australia, and abroad.”<\/p>\n
