AN exhibition currently taking place at Ballarat’s TBH Studio celebrates the legacy of master potter Peter Pilven while raising money for Beyond Blue and Uniting Care.<\/p>\n
Launched last week, Community of Mugs \u2013 Cups for Pete brings together a vibrant collection of handmade coffee mugs and 2D artworks.<\/p>\n
Pilven had an extensive career as a ceramic artist, teaching generations of students at Federation University where he was a very popular teacher and mentor.<\/p>\n
Curated by Pilven’s former students, Claire Blake and Peter Thomas, the exhibition honours his passion for collecting handmade coffee mugs, and his support of charities.<\/p>\n
“Pete Pilven had such a big influence on art and artists in Ballarat, and it’s wonderful to see his contribution being celebrated,” Blake said.<\/p>\n
“He was a pretty humble person, and it feels fitting that his impact is being recognised.”<\/p>\n
All works have been created by a diverse group of artists, including family and friends, former students and peers.<\/p>\n
Every piece is available for purchase, with 100 per cent of proceeds donated to Beyond Blue and Uniting Care, two charities Peter supported passionately.<\/p>\n
“We have had a very good response with 20 plus ceramicists and artists contributing,” Thomas said.<\/p>\n
“We have also set up donation stations in the gallery if people want to contribute on top of purchasing mugs or artwork.”<\/p>\n
The exhibition runs to November 29 at TBH Studio, 57 Bridge Mall, with the official opening from 2pm to 4pm this Saturday 15 November.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
