THIS summer will see the return of Ballarat\u2019s free New Years Eve fireworks, Summer Sundays<\/a> concert series, and Australia Day Picnic in the Park.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s fireworks display saw more than 40,000 people head to the shores of Lake Wendouree<\/a> and a larger crowd is expected this year.<\/p>\n

The display is produced by local pyrotechnician Matthew Batty from Northern Fireworks.<\/p>\n

It will take place at 9.30pm on Wednesday 31 December from 9.30pm weather permitting.<\/p>\n

\u201cSimilar to last year, [there will be] a very big 15-minute display fired across three fireworks pontoons down at the Yacht Club and then the really large ariel fireworks set off from near Loreto,\u201d Mr Batty said.<\/p>\n

The Summer Sundays concert series will occur each Sunday in January from 3pm until 7pm at the Botanical Gardens, and half of the line-up are local artists.<\/p>\n

Food trucks and a fully licenced bar will be available with beverages from Blue Pyrenees Estate Winery, Aunty Jacks, Grainery Lane, and The Gospel Whisky.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt gives people the opportunity to bring a picnic rug and spread out and enjoy the sunshine and kick back and listen to some good music,\u201d Fe Porter from local band Square Wave Bounce said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a good opportunity for local artists to come and play in their community.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Australia Day picnic in the park will occur for the fifth time on Monday 26 January with activities, market stalls, food trucks and entertainment.<\/p>\n

It will be held in Victoria Park next to the inclusive play space from 11am until 3pm.<\/p>\n

The program of events is organised by the City of Ballarat<\/a> and deputy mayor Cr Ben Taylor said is wonderful to see so many free activities on offer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know we\u2019ve been looking at the cost of living, it\u2019s really important trying to put back into the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
