For museum secretary, recreational pilot Louise Humble, it was a matter of becoming hooked on flight.<\/p>\n
So having an operating aircraft hangar immediately adjoining the museum, and housing currently flying light aircraft, is definitely part of the appeal.<\/p>\n
Ms Humble became a pilot, obtaining her recreational certificate after taking a trial introductory flight.<\/p>\n
“If I went anywhere at all on holidays and there were scenic flights on offer I would always take one,” she laughed, recounting her own journey to becoming a pilot and a committee member with the museum.<\/p>\n
Ms Humble has her own 2011 Jabiru J230 light aircraft that she regularly takes up for short and occasionally longer flights, including to Busselton in WA and back to attend the Australian Women Pilots Association’s 75th anniversary conference in May.<\/p>\n
Mr Brown makes no secret of the fact that he enjoys leading tour groups and telling visitors all about gems in the collection like the Malkara and Ikara missiles, Turana target drone and Link trainer, the first of the ground flight simulators, aerial cameras and early aviation equipment.<\/p>\n
“A lot of people live in Ballarat and don’t even know it’s here,” he said.<\/p>\n
The museum is open Saturdays and public holidays (excluding Christmas Day and Good Friday) from 11am to 4pm, Sundays 1pm to 4pm, and by appointment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
