Photos: EVIE LAMB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The newly completed half kilometre section connects with a pre-existing 1.5 kilometres of pathways, filling in a missing link and making walking and cycling easier and safer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is about creating a city where people feel safe and connected,&#8221; Cr Hargreaves said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/01\/MacarthurStPathC_94812.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"398\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Local residents have been quick to make good use of the newly completed Macarthur Street Shared Path project.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This path links key destinations and gives people more choice in how they move around our city.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The project was jointly funded with $500,000 from the Federal Government&#8217;s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and $550,000 from the City of Ballarat.<\/p>\n<p>Central Vic Civil completed the project with key features including safer crossings at Burnbank Street and Wendouree Parade, 60 new street trees and landscaping, defined parking bays and speed management measures &#8211; which were a main request from residents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The minute it opened there were people using it,&#8221; said Ms King.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/01\/MacarthurStPathD_95795.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"906\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Local residents have been quick to make good use of the newly completed Macarthur Street Shared Path project.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This section of the Macarthur Street was a missing link in Ballarat&#8217;s existing active transport network and its completion means people can now connect between the lake and the station.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The upgraded path makes the area safer for everyone, whether you&#8217;re pushing a stroller, out for a walk or run, or on a bike or motor scooter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is really functional and also looks terrific.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RIGHT on cue, a cyclist giving a dog some on-lead exercise whisked past just as formalities were about to start at the opening of the Macarthur Street Shared Path Project last month.
