TIME is of the essence for artists hoping to have their work featured in the Alfredton Rotary Festival of Art in March.<\/p>\n

Coinciding with Ballarat’s Begonia Festival, the returning event runs from March 5-9, with entries for the art show closing on 31 January.<\/p>\n

The exhibition, now in its second year, will be open to the public over the long weekend from March 7 to 9, filling a large marquee on the Lake Wendouree foreshore opposite the Botanic Gardens.<\/p>\n

“This year we’re aiming to make it more of a festival with interactive activities including our Vino and Van Gogh event on the Saturday night, children’s activities and a primary school art competition,” Alfredton Rotary Club’s Deb Robertson said.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got a fantastic tutor for the Vino and Van Gogh evening and people who participate get their own canvas to take home.<\/p>\n

“We’d also really like to see people attend the opening night on Thursday 5 March, which is open to the public to get their first look at the artworks and make a purchase.”<\/p>\n

Ms Robertson said the event revived a much-loved tradition in Ballarat.<\/p>\n

“Apex used to run an art show event but it folded about a decade ago, and last year we brought the art show back,” she said.<\/p>\n

“We have members who had been in Ballarat for a long time and had valued the Apex art show and enjoyed it during the Begonia Festival weekend, and just wanted to bring it back as a community event.<\/p>\n

“We tracked down the display boards Apex used to use and they donated them, and last year we only had couple of months to put the show together but it was very well received by the artists and the public, who were really appreciative.”<\/p>\n

Visitors are invited to vote for their favourite artwork, with the event to raise funds for the Rotary club.<\/p>\n

Artists are invited to submit work across multiple genres including painting, photography, ceramics and sculpture.<\/p>\n
