{"id":120058,"date":"2026-02-26T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=120058"},"modified":"2026-02-27T13:44:30","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T02:44:30","slug":"expanded-headspace-centre-opens-for-youth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/expanded-headspace-centre-opens-for-youth\/","title":{"rendered":"Expanded headspace centre opens for youth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TAYLAH Sims experienced the proof of considerable effort from Ballarat&#8217;s youth when she walked through the city&#8217;s new headspace office last week.<\/p>\n<p>The headspace youth reference group member helped officially open the service&#8217;s new location at Dawson Street North on Wednesday 18 February.<\/p>\n<p>Funded with $1.2 million from the Federal Government via Western Victoria Primary Health Network, the purpose-built centre features colourful, engaging spaces housing a range of health and support services for young people.<\/p>\n<p>headspace relocated from its previous Camp Street office to accommodate services.<\/p>\n<p>In the past year, headspace Ballarat had more than 4800 appointments regarding mental and physical health, and vocational support.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/02\/260218Taylorribbonpr_80365.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Taylah Sims from Ballarat&#8217;s headspace youth reference group with stakeholders before officially opening the service&#8217;s new location.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Miss Sims said she was excited about the centre.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Walking through the space it feels very real and very much like we have much more opportunities for the future,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The service collaborated with young people on the centre&#8217;s design.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everything down to the couches that people sit on are exactly what we imagined,&#8221; Miss Sims said. &#8220;Very comforting, very casual to keep people engaged.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sean Duffy, chief executive officer of the centre&#8217;s lead agency Ballarat Community Health, said the facility offered not just clinical support but a range of services.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We wanted to make sure we&#8217;ve got room to grow as different services come into the facility and into the broader service network that we can accommodate them,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_120064\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-120064\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-120064 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/02\/260218SeanDuffy_80367-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/02\/260218SeanDuffy_80367-1-rotated.jpg 900w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/02\/260218SeanDuffy_80367-1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/02\/260218SeanDuffy_80367-1-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-120064\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ballarat Community Health chief executive officer Sean Duffy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>headspace chief executive officer Jason Trethowan said the building centralised many services to meet demand.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So Ballarat Community Health for instance will have a number of their staff based here because it means young people don&#8217;t have to be referred off elsewhere,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They can actually still come here for a more comprehensive suite of services and that&#8217;s what this building has enabled, a deeper suite of services based on where they are at and based on what their needs are.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Federal Member for Ballarat Catherine King said she was delighted to tour the new facility.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s meant that they&#8217;ve also been able to bring some of the youth community health services, youth legal service, youth homelessness service, other opportunities, GP here and the youth nurse as well,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I encourage young people to reach out, use the services, they are here for you and they are free.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TAYLAH Sims experienced the proof of considerable effort from Ballarat&#8217;s youth when she walked through the city&#8217;s new headspace office last week.
