Smeaton will have both their division 5 and 6 sides playing at BMS where they will play against City Oval and Sebastopol respectively.<\/p>\n
“We hope to get both our sides up on Saturday and this will give us an opportunity for our div 5 side to return to the division 4 competition and leave the way for our division 6 side to be promoted also,” said Smeaton’s Russell Leishman.<\/p>\n
Ballarat’s division 1 grand final between Victoria and Sebastopol bowling clubs was played last Sunday at Central Wendouree in front of a large crowd where Victoria narrowly won through by the single shot to take out their fourth consecutive premiership.<\/p>\n
The match will be remembered for one of the rinks having to return to green to play their last end after they realised their miscalculation of ends played just when Victoria had thought they won the match by three shots and were entering into a celebratory mood.<\/p>\n
In the late final end Sebastopol’s skipper Matthew Kosloff narrowly missed moving the jack back slightly to gain a further shot to draw the game and thereby requiring all players back onto the green to play a further deciding end or gain a further shot and outrightly take the win for Sebastopol.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Victoria Bowling Club’s division side will now go on to play the Premier’s from the Region’s Highlands playing area won by the Romsey Bowling Club after the playing of two extra ends in their game against Kyneton to determine the winner.<\/p>\n This was Romsey’s first win in over 60 years in the competition’s top division.
