{"id":120602,"date":"2026-03-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=120602"},"modified":"2026-03-18T18:33:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T07:33:08","slug":"buninyong-wins-div-two-saturday-grand-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/buninyong-wins-div-two-saturday-grand-final\/","title":{"rendered":"Buninyong wins div two Saturday grand final"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BUNINYONG Bowling Club has concluded the season&#8217;s pennant season winning through to take out the Division 2 Saturday Pennant final earning the promotion to compete in next season&#8217;s Division 1 competition.<\/p>\n<p>With only 3 shots separating the side from Creswick it was the performance of Brian Wilcock&#8217;s rink winning by 19 shots that helped negate Creswick&#8217;s Gerry Flapper 18 shot rink win with both teams each having two rinks up for the afternoon.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/03\/image1_27205.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"857\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Division 9 Learmonth.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s very exciting for the Club as we finished on top of the ladder at the end of the home and away season then went on to finish off by taking the premiership and we also had a premiership win in division 3 in the Tuesday pennant competition last Tuesday&#8221; said club president Sandra Chapman. &#8220;Our players fought hard for both wins as it was a very close contest and all up it&#8217;s been a great day. It was a close match all afternoon with each team taking the lead at different stages so it was so pleasing to be in front at the end.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/03\/image3_27251.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"1200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Division 4 Ballarat North.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n<p>City Oval Bowling Club took the flag for the Division 3 competition in their final against Midlands by 12 shots with three rinks up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;City Oval got off to the best possible start with both John Peddlesden and Chris Smith&#8217;s rinks well up at the break&#8221; said City Oval&#8217;s Ian Robinson. &#8220;City Oval held a 39 shot advantage at the recommencement of play after afternoon tea and Midlands to their credit fought back hard and narrowed the margin to 10 shots with two ends to play.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/03\/IMG_3160_87922.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Webbcona&#8217;s Division 8 side.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In a very even performance we managed to hang on to claim the Premiership to advance to Division 2 next season.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ballarat North&#8217;s Division 4 side having finished fourth at the end of the home away matches won through all their matches in the finals series to go into the grand final where they took out a strong 23 shot win over Learmonth with 3 rinks up. The team included three members from Ballarat&#8217;s Gold Diggers junior squad being Jack Baldwin, Mikayla and Logan Mattei.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/03\/IMG_3163_87851.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Midlands Division 7 side.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ballarat North also snared the Tuesday Pennant Division 6 premiership in a narrow 2 shot win over Victoria with Terry Simpkin&#8217;s rink 8 shot advantage helping the side take the flag.<\/p>\n<p>The Smeaton community celebrated hard over the weekend with its Division 5 and 6 sides both winning through to take home premierships.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/03\/IMG_3170_87928.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">City Oval Division 3 side.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a great effort by the Club and we are really rapt,&#8221; said Smeaton&#8217;s Geoff Pickering. &#8220;It shows that a small country club can perform at the highest level.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the Division 6 match Sebastopol were only a couple of shots down in the final stages of the game before Winston Pickering&#8217;s rink scored a 6 on their second last end which gave us a buffer that helped us through to take out the match by 8 shots.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/03\/IMG_5234_87918.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">North&#8217;s third Logan Mattei congratulating his skipper&#8217;s bowl.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Division 5 win was a terrific win for us also, particularly as we were 27 shots down at one stage and went into afternoon tea 23 shots down.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The team fought strongly in the second half of the contest reducing the lead so at the last end to be played the scores were level.
