A LEADERSHIP workshop has proven a winner among the region’s women in sport with another locked in for later this month.<\/p>\n
Coming up on 28 April, the next in the continuing series of Sports Central’s Coaches and Leaders Circle sessions will be a focused on wellbeing, this time specifically for coaches.<\/p>\n
The Circle aims to empower and equip women and gender-diverse people in coaching and leadership roles across the Central Highlands.<\/p>\n
“Women in sport often juggle multiple roles and having the space to reflect, connect and build practical skills is incredibly important,” said Caitlin Johnston, project coordinator at Sports Central.<\/p>\n
“The Coaches and Leaders Circle is about creating a strong network of women who feel supported, confident and empowered to lead in their clubs and communities.”<\/p>\n
Facilitated by clinical psychologist Katie Wood, the first workshop for the year took place in Ballarat and focussed on practical strategies to support women both personally and in their leadership roles.<\/p>\n
It brought together 18 female leaders from across a diverse range of sports including golf, tennis, football, soccer, hockey, netball and cycling.<\/p>\n
“The group included a mix of administrators, players, coaches and committee members which created a really valuable environment for shared learning and discussion,” Johnston said.<\/p>\n
“The workshop was highly engaging with a strong focus on open, honest conversation. Participants explored key themes around wellbeing and the challenges faced by women in sport and there was a clear sense of connection and support built within the group.<\/p>\n
“The willingness of attendees to share their experiences contributed to a meaningful and impactful session.<\/p>\n
“We were really pleased with the turnout and the level of engagement throughout which highlights the demand for these types of opportunities in our local sporting community for women.”<\/p>\n
Johnston said this month’s coaches’ workshop will continue to build on the themes of wellbeing using a practical, discussion-based approach. It will also be free to attend with more details and registrations through Sports Central.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
