FIVE artists are inviting everyone to share the wonder with their new group exhibition at Ross Creek Gallery.<\/p>\n

Fragile Wonder officially opens from 2pm to 4pm this Sunday 12 April and features work by established Golden Plains artists Glynis Bryden, Lisa G Hunter, Anne Langdon, Catriona Sexton and Kate Wise.<\/p>\n

In this show they each focus on “appreciating the beauty and fragility that surrounds us and is within us”.<\/p>\n

“All of the works I have in the exhibition are collages,” said Smythedale-based Anne Langdon.<\/p>\n

“I tend to collage quite playfully by utilising my old prints. I also find bits out of magazines and I paint or draw sections as well. I use a lot of mixed media in my work. It’s a lovely way to work.<\/p>\n

“I don’t stick anything down until I’m happy with where it’s going. You’re making your composition as you go along.”<\/p>\n

Langdon is represented in Fragile Wonder by three large works and eight smaller pieces.<\/p>\n

Alongside her collaged celebration of colour, the mix of Hunter’s love of the abstract, Wise’s keen eye to seasonal change, Bryden’s reverence for environment, and Sexton’s eco-printing technique ensures sufficient diversity to appeal to a divergent range of tastes.<\/p>\n

“Catriona uses the eucalypts and trees around here to get her effects,” Langdon said.<\/p>\n

“Her approach is quite experimental. She uses the leaves and steams them so the oils of leaves imprint onto the fabric.”<\/p>\n

For those interested to know more about the technique, Sexton will be leading a free workshop to share her eco-printing know-how at The Well in Smythesdale on 14 May with bookings through the Bannockburn Library.<\/p>\n

Looking further ahead to June, Wise will be leading a free workshop focused on the technique of gelli plate printing at the same venue.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, art-lovers have until 26 April to catch Fragile Wonder at Ross Creek Gallery at 183 Post Office Road at Smythes Creek.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
