FORMER Sports Entertainment Network and North Melbourne Football Club executive Sam Bingley has taken over the reins as the Ballarat Turf Club’s new chief executive officer.<\/p>\n
His appointment, announced by the club last week, marks a return to where it all began in racing for the long-time sports administrator.<\/p>\n
He has previously held a number of roles within the industry, including positions with the Melbourne Racing Club and the Victoria Racing Club.<\/p>\n
Bingley fills the role left vacant by the sudden departure of Peter Downs in February.<\/p>\n
He brings more than 25 years of experience across the sport and media industries, having previously served as CEO (New South Wales and New Zealand) for SEN, as well as chief commercial officer at the North Melbourne Football Club and Crocmedia.<\/p>\n
The announcement came just three days before a huge Good Friday Country Discovery race day at Ballarat, highlighted by an a strong eight-race card with $815,000 in prizemoney.<\/p>\n
BTC chairman Bill Gribble said Bingley’s appointment marked an exciting new chapter for the club.<\/p>\n
“We are delighted to welcome Sam Bingley as CEO of the Ballarat Turf Club,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Sam’s extensive experience across sport, media and racing makes him an outstanding appointment, and we are confident he will build on the club’s strong presence within the racing industry as a training and racing centre, while continuing to strengthen its role in the Ballarat community.”<\/p>\n
Bingley could not be happier to be back in racing.<\/p>\n
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Ballarat Turf Club at such an important time,” he said.<\/p>\n
“The club has a proud history and plays a vital role in the Ballarat community.<\/p>\n
“I look forward to working with the team and the committee to build on its strong presence within the racing landscape, while continuing to deliver great experiences for members, participants and racegoers alike”.<\/p>\n
Bingley, whose first official day was on Wednesday this week, has initially taken the reins in a part-time capacity to enable him to fulfil existing engagements<\/p>\n
