ST Patrick’s College Ballarat is celebrating Education Week by highlighting the diverse senior pathways available to students, reinforcing the message that success looks different for every young man.<\/p>\n
Through VCE, VET and Vocational Major, as well as Accelerated Learning, the college offers a broad range of options designed to support students’ individual strengths, interests and aspirations, ensuring each boy is equipped with the skills and confidence to thrive beyond school.<\/p>\n
Deputy principal (Academic Culture) Carol Roberts said providing genuine choice is central to the college’s approach to senior education.<\/p>\n
“At St Patrick’s College, we know that success looks different for every boy. Providing a range of pathways allows our students to engage in learning that is meaningful to them and aligned with their goals,” Roberts said.<\/p>\n

Head of VET and Vocational Major Brendan Tudbull said these pathways are essential in helping students connect their education with real-world opportunities.<\/p>\n

“VET and the Vocational Major give them the opportunity to develop practical skills, gain nationally recognised qualifications and build clear pathways into apprenticeships, traineeships or the workforce.<\/p>\n
“Just as importantly, these programs build confidence. Our boys can see what they’re capable of, and that has a powerful impact on their motivation and future direction.”<\/p>\n
Supporting students to make informed decisions is a key focus of the college’s careers program. Careers coordinator Dr Kim Pappaluca said students are guided every step of the way as they consider their options and plan for life after school.<\/p>\n
“Choosing a pathway is an important decision, but it’s not one our students make alone. We work closely with each young man and his family to explore his interests, strengths and ambitions, and to connect those with meaningful and achievable pathways beyond school,” Dr Pappaluca said.<\/p>\n
“It’s about opening their eyes to the possibilities \u2013 whether that’s university, a trade, further training or the workforce \u2013 and giving them the confidence to take that next step.”<\/p>\n
For students seeking additional academic challenge, St Patrick’s College also offers accelerated learning opportunities, allowing high-achieving students to extend themselves and pursue their ambitions.<\/p>\n
Head of academic extension Kathryn Fraser said ensuring every student is appropriately challenged is key to their growth and success.<\/p>\n
“Our role is to meet each student where they are and help them realise their potential. For some, that means extension and acceleration in academic studies, while for others it’s a more applied or vocational pathway,” Fraser said.<\/p>\n
