BALLARAT Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a suspicious fire that caused significant damage to a display home in Lucas early Monday morning.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to the vacant property on Cuthberts Road about 5.30am, after it was allegedly set alight by an unknown offender.<\/p>\n

Police believe a man arrived at the address in a silver ute before forcing entry into the home. Investigators allege the offender poured an accelerant throughout the premises before igniting the fire and fleeing the scene in the vehicle.<\/p>\n

The blaze left the display home with extensive fire and smoke damage, with detectives now working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.<\/p>\n

As part of the investigation, police have released CCTV footage and still images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.<\/p>\n

The man is described as having a solid build, approximately 180cm tall, and was wearing a navy-blue hoodie, a cap, beige pants and black sneakers at the time.<\/p>\n

The silver ute believed to be linked to the incident was later located in Dowling Street, Wendouree, on 29 April.<\/p>\n

Detectives are continuing to piece together the events leading up to the fire and are urging anyone with information to come forward.<\/p>\n

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam or CCTV footage, or recognises the man is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.<\/a><\/p>\n
