Alexander, who has three horses currently in work, explained her decision to take out her trainer’s licence.<\/p>\n
“My whole background is jumps racing and I just wanted to do a little bit on the side,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Obviously, I’m very heavily involved with Alexander Racing and Archie’s team, but I just wanted to do something in my own name.<\/p>\n
“The idea with all of my horses is a future to go jumping, including this fellow here.<\/p>\n
“But he is not quite there yet, so we are mixing it with the flat as well.”<\/p>\n
A nice surprise, Alexander had certainly been building towards a win following six seconds from her first 20 runners.<\/p>\n
MacRedmond, who settled in Australia in late 2024 after a short stint in Ballarat the previous summer, was rapt to have played his part in the win and to have repaid the Alexanders for their support.<\/p>\n
“It means an awful lot. Annie and Archie helped me get out here to Australia in the first place,” he said.<\/p>\n
“To be fair to Annie, she did all the paperwork, and trust me, there’s loads of it; countless hours of it.<\/p>\n
“To ride her first winner in her name, it means a lot.”<\/p>\n
The 25-year-old paid credit to a tough performance by Tulchan, who ticked off his first win at start number 14.<\/p>\n
“We went nice and hard early on; I was in a nice spot,” MacRedmond said.<\/p>\n
“Once I steadied up, I was just able to slowly creep.<\/p>\n
“We tried to sprint a bit at the 800, but he hit a flat spot. He’s an out and out stayer.<\/p>\n
“To be fair to him, once I got clear light and once we straightened up, he was pretty genuine and he hit the line pretty strong.”<\/p>\n
