FUNDING in this year’s state budget has been allocated for the construction of a pedestrian crossing on a busy road in Delacombe.<\/p>\n
The crossing on Wiltshire Lane will be used for pedestrians to reach the other side of a road that services established and new housing and is also surrounded by businesses.<\/p>\n
Wendouree MP Juliana Addison said the road had become busier over the years.<\/p>\n
“And what we’ve found is that people living on the Winter Valley side of Wiltshire Lane have found it more and more dangerous,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Particularly the elderly, people with special needs, and of course children trying to access Lumen Christi Primary School, Delacombe Primary School, and Phoenix (P-12 Community College), have found it very dangerous to come across this.<\/p>\n
“So, we’ve heard this from the community.”<\/p>\n
Addison said the announcement had been welcomed.<\/p>\n
“We have the roundabout at Greenhalghs Road and the roundabout at Whitelaw Avenue,” she said.<\/p>\n
“But there are bus stops on either sides and with students from Winter Valley on this side of the road attending local primary schools, as well as trying to access Phoenix, it’s very important that there is a safe crossing on Wiltshire Lane.”<\/p>\n
Addison said she would be working with the state roads minister to make sure the crossing was a priority to be delivered.<\/p>\n
The work is being funded from an allocated $73.4 million pool in the 26\/27 budget to tackle congestion and improve safety across regional Victoria.<\/p>\n
This includes works set for the intersection of Midland Highway and Warrenheip Street in Buninyong.<\/p>\n
Money will be spent on the installation of four wombat crossings on the roads’ roundabout.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
