World Cup fever will come to Ballarat this month when Alfred Deakin Place transforms into Socceroos territory.<\/p>\n
The site will broadcast Australia\u2019s men\u2019s soccer team taking on T\u00fcrkiye on Sunday 14 June from 2pm for fans to come together and enjoy the action.<\/p>\n
City of Ballarat mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves said Alfred Deakin Place was the perfect venue for the community to support the green and gold.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are really excited to be bringing the atmosphere of the world\u2019s biggest football tournament to the heart of our city on the big screen for the Socceroos opening match,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will certainly be an exciting time for all fans, and we want as many people as possible to come along and be part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The live screening is free.<\/p>\n
It follows on from when the space was used to broadcast FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup matches in 2023. Hundreds of people gathered at Alfred Deakin Place to support the Matildas, presenting strong support for major sporting events in Ballarat.<\/p>\n
Because seating will not be provided, sitegoers are encouraged to bring a folding chair, umbrella, blanket, picnic rug and to dress warmly to enjoy the broadcast comfortably.<\/p>\n
Heaters will be onsite. Public toilets will be accessible throughout the event.<\/p>\n
Local cafes and other hospitality venues in and around the CBD will be open during the afternoon screening, offering a range of food options before, during and after the game.<\/p>\n
