A unique and enduring partnership between AFL Victoria and the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) is encouraging grassroots football and netball clubs across the state to drive an important road safety message.<\/p>\n

Launched last week, the 2026 TAC Club Rewards Program invites clubs to apply for a share of $700,000 in grants to deliver community initiatives that help influence driver behaviour and save lives.<\/p>\n

Clubs can apply for up to $10,000 to invest in projects that strengthen their club and support safer communities.<\/p>\n

Among the 320 recipients last year was Ballarat league club Sebastopol, which received the maximum $10,000 by demonstrating the role local clubs can play in making road safety part of everyday conversations.<\/p>\n

Further to supporting the annual Road Safety Round, the Burra hosted a presentation from Central Highlands Roadsafe Group and promoted road safety within their community.<\/p>\n

Now in its seventh year, the program will this year focus on speeding, urging clubs to lead by example with the message: Be the Difference. Make the Right Choice. Slow Down on the\u00a0Road.<\/p>\n

Football-netball clubs are regarded as the ideal driver of key road safety messages as they are at the centre of their communities, with players, volunteers and supporters travelling on the same roads every week.<\/p>\n

“Football and netball clubs are trusted parts of communities right across Victoria,” head of AFL Victoria Greg Madigan said.<\/p>\n

“This program supports clubs to lead by example and create a culture where looking out for each other extends beyond the field.”<\/p>\n

TAC CEO Tracey Slatter said funding could be used to improve transport options, upgrade facilities or deliver local road safety initiatives.<\/p>\n

“We see the impact of road trauma every day and remain focused on supporting people through recovery while helping prevent these incidents from happening in the first place,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Programs like Club Rewards help take road safety into communities, where important messages can have a real\u00a0impact.”<\/p>\n

The program comes as Victoria continues to focus on reducing road trauma, with 105 lives lost on Victorian roads so far this year, including 62 deaths in regional areas.<\/p>\n

“Our local football and netball clubs play an important role in bringing communities together and helping influence positive change,” roads and road safety and community sport minister Ros Spence said.<\/p>\n

“This program is backing clubs to start important conversations and encourage safer choices that can help reduce trauma on our roads.”<\/p>\n

The TAC and AFL Victoria have partnered together for 33 years, working to achieve the vision of no deaths or serious injuries on our roads.<\/p>\n
