{"id":123460,"date":"2026-06-24T12:05:36","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T02:05:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=123460"},"modified":"2026-06-24T12:06:04","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T02:06:04","slug":"quirk-laden-capper-hour-a-candid-affair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/quirk-laden-capper-hour-a-candid-affair\/","title":{"rendered":"Quirk-laden Capper hour a candid affair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cult absurdist comic Nick Capper is bound for Ballarat this weekend for the express purpose of presenting his latest hour of material, Broke, Useless &amp; Sterile.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and visits to Adelaide Fringe, Brisbane and Sydney, Capper\u2019s show is somewhat autobiographical, laying bare the various aspects of his life hinted at in its title.<\/p>\n<p>The former country boy, who grew up near the border of New South Wales and Queensland, said developing each touring stand-up show is \u201calways different\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This time around, a lot of content was devised in his local library in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d just walk there with no phone and try to write for two to three hours a day and come up with ideas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen, basically, there\u2019s this psychotic thing where I perform it in front of my wife, who\u2019s very judgmental.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a really hardcore process, but it\u2019s probably my best show yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Capper said it has thus far been received \u201creally, really well\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI sold out 11 out of 13 shows at the Comedy Festival, then I had a sold out run in Brisbane and two sold out shows in Sydney,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>While he encouraged local comedy fans to come along to his Bendigo leg, he warned \u201cdon\u2019t come to learn anything\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, for anyone who\u2019s been diagnosed with ADHD, or is going through IVF, or is bad with money, they\u2019ll definitely resonate with it,\u201d Capper said.<\/p>\n<p>Broke, Useless &amp; Sterile takes place at Ballarat Performing Arts Centre, Soldiers Hill on Saturday 27 June at 7.30pm.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are available at <a href=\"https:\/\/events.humanitix.com\/nick-capper-broke-useless-and-sterile\">Humanitix<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cult absurdist comic Nick Capper is bound for Ballarat this weekend for the express purpose of presenting his latest hour of material, Broke, Useless &amp; Sterile.
