LOCAL sporting groups like the Ballarat Football Netball Club are set to be the ultimate beneficiaries of major upgrades to Alfredton Recreation Reserve’s clubrooms.<\/p>\n

The City of Ballarat has revitalised the venue’s existing pavilion, delivering a larger indoor social area, a new storage facility and a sheltered viewing area that overlooks the oval.<\/p>\n

The $730,000 investment was officially marked complete by City of Ballarat Alfredton Ward councillor Damon Saunders and members of the Ballarat Swans last Friday.<\/p>\n

The club’s president, Craig Lightfoot, said it had been well over 20 years since the Ballarat Football Club first built the social rooms, and that an upgrade was due.<\/p>\n

“In that time, it served not just our football, netball, bowls and cricket clubs, but countless local events and community gatherings. A true shared space for many,” he said.<\/p>\n

“With the rapid growth of netball, female football and our junior boys’ programs, it’s fair to say we’d well and truly outgrown the old rooms.<\/p>\n

“The redevelopment will transform what we can offer, not just for our own clubs and members, but for the broader community to enjoy and benefit from for many years to come.”<\/p>\n

Cr Saunders said the upgrades would encourage community connection and participation.<\/p>\n

“The Alfredton Recreation Reserve supports people of all ages to stay active and socially connected through organised and casual sport,” Cr Saunders said.<\/p>\n
