REFURBISHMENT works on the City Oval grandstand were officially unveiled on Tuesday 14 July.<\/p>\n
With the facility’s 128-year heritage considered, the project included upgraded player changeroom amenities and the installation of new toilets and showers.<\/p>\n
Structural improvements were also undertaken.<\/p>\n
The City of Ballarat contributed $1.7m to the project, and the Australian Football League provided $100,000 through its Australian Football Facilities Fund.<\/p>\n
Redan Football Netball Club president Justin Rumble said they were “over the moon” with the upgraded facilities.<\/p>\n
He said it was exciting for everyone involved, and that the club could continue to evolve.<\/p>\n
“Retention and recruitment should hopefully become easier with a fantastic facility that we’ve got,” he said.<\/p>\n
Chris Jones, chair of the Ballarat Football Umpires Association, thought the facilities were great for the game.<\/p>\n
“We’re always looking to recruit new umpires and I think having first-class facilities like this is another reason for people to come and give us a go and try umpiring,” he said.<\/p>\n
The upgraded changerooms are now more accessible in line with the AFL Preferred Facilities Guidelines.<\/p>\n
“The inclusive and accessible changeroom amenities make this a welcoming environment for participants of all ages, genders and abilities, and will ensure that City Oval remains at the centre of footy in Ballarat for decades to come,” said Jessie Doull, venue and government partnerships manager for AFL Victoria.<\/p>\n
City of Ballarat mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves welcomed the project’s completion.<\/p>\n
“The extent of these upgrades is truly remarkable,” she said.<\/p>\n
