A Youth Prevention and Recovery Care (YPARC) centre was officially opened in Newington on Monday 20 July.<\/p>\n
The free mental health service offers specialist around-the-clock care for young people aged 16 to 25 years.<\/p>\n
Voluntary and referral-based, the service enables youth to receive care while remaining connected to their community.<\/p>\n
Patients can continue to go to work or school during the treatment.<\/p>\n
YPARCs aim to offer early intervention and clinical care in a safe and welcoming environment.<\/p>\n
Minister for mental health Ingrid Stitt opened the facility.<\/p>\n
“This will mean that young people in this part of our state will have a place that they can come to receive both clinical and psychosocial supports without the need to have to travel hundreds of kilometres to facilities either in Melbourne or other parts of the state,” she said.<\/p>\n
Grampians Health chief operating officer Ben Kelly said the facility is an asset for the region.<\/p>\n
“This facility gives us a distinct advantage in delivering care which is respectful, which will ensure that people are given the best opportunity to get back on course as they see fit in due course,” he said.<\/p>\n
Kelly said the services provided by Grampians Health and centre partner Wellways encourage clients to remain engaged in their life.<\/p>\n
Wellways’ mental health services regional manager for western Victoria Damian Gale said skills development is on offer to clients to help them manage everyday tasks and challenges at home and in society.<\/p>\n
“A lot of it’s around meeting the person where they’re at and finding out what we can do to help support them to live the best life they can,” Gale said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
