BALLARAT Base Hospital Trained Nurses League is celebrating its 90th Annual General Meeting and reunion dinner this weekend.<\/p>\n
First founded in 1928, the League has held annual reunions ever since, along with quarterly meetings.<\/p>\n
Activities of the group include honouring the wartime effort of nurses by laying wreaths on Remembrance Day, Anzac Day and at the Nurses Memorial Centre in Melbourne.<\/p>\n
The League continues to support the Hospital in community service, with\u00a0 donations to the BHS Foundation and Good Samaritan Fund each year.<\/p>\n
It offers two scholarships to further the training of nurses. The Jean Finlayson Scholarship for General Nursing and the Joanne Gilbert Scholarship for Maternal and Child Health.<\/p>\n
The League has published two books written by Winsome Menadue \u2013 First Fifty Years of the League 1929-1978 and Nurse Training Registers 1888-1978, along with a DVD produced by Trina Jones, containing photos and memorabilia of the training schools and hospital.<\/p>\n
Both the planned events take place on Saturday, 3 November.<\/p>\n
The AGM is set for the Gardiner Pittard Foyer at the Ballarat Hospital at 2.15pm while the dinner takes place at Ballarat Gold Club from 6.30pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
