THE driving force of more power in a group than an individual, is behind the recent formation by residents of the new Committee for Ballarat North.<\/p>\n
The committee\u2019s aim is to advocate collectively for change and the implementation of new initiatives in the community, as some residents are frustrated with inaction after writing to Ballarat City Council about their own ideas and concerns.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to build strong neighbourhood friendships that will encourage community engagement,\u201d said Neil Para, newly-elected president of the committee.\u201cWe hope as a group we might be able to achieve something.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the group\u2019s agenda is a call for improved maintenance at the water park in Doveton Street North, creating a community garden with compost bins, constructing a roundabout at the Havelock and Landsborough Streets intersection and establishing walking paths.<\/p>\n
Ballarat North Ward Councillor Grant Tillet, although he hasn\u2019t spoken with the committee yet, supports them wholeheartedly.<\/p>\n
\u201cGood on you for starting the group,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
All Ballarat North residents are encouraged to join the group and all ideas are welcome.<\/p>\n
Meetings will take place at 6pm on the second Friday of the month at a venue to be confirmed on group\u2019s Facebook page.<\/p>\n
