WHILE the Wendouree community await the delivery of the $7million for development of the Wendouree West recreation reserve promised by the state government during the election campaign, they have not been sitting on their hands.<\/p>\n
The Friends of the Reserve group will hold a community celebration to promote the upgraded facilities at public space on Tuesday, 26 February.<\/p>\n
The Friends group, founded 12 months ago under the auspice of the Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre, along with other community partners, have planned a free fun filled evening with a range of activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s important for people to have the opportunity to come together as a community, to enjoy this lovely new space and to be able participate in local activities into the future\u201d, said Kate Owen, Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre\u2019s community development officer.<\/p>\n
Families, friends and neighbours are welcome to shoot some hoops with players from the Hotondo Homes Ballarat Miners and Selkirk Ballarat Rush, take a spin around the reserve\u2019s tracks on a bike from ReCranked, have a go climbing the inflatable wall or play a round of family mini-golf.<\/p>\n
To quench the thirst after all the exercise there\u2019ll be juice boxes and hot drinks available for purchase to help wash down the free sausage sizzle provided by the Miner\u2019s Rest Lions Club.<\/p>\n
The kids can indulge in face painting and check out the play-ground.<\/p>\n
Mrs Jennie Gilmer from Forest Ranger\u2019s Soccer Club said, \u201cWe are very excited to be involved in this wonderful community celebration that helps to activate the new landscaping and facilities at the Reserve.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe always welcome next members and we will have a come and try soccer activity on the day, and information about the upcoming season,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The community celebration event will be held at the Wendouree West Recreational Reserve, with entry via Holly Grove or Kurrajong Road, Wendouree, on Tuesday, 26 February from 3.30pm to 6pm.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a drug and alcohol-free event. In the event of extreme weather all activities will be cancelled.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
