ELEVEN-year-old Delacombe Primary School student Kendra Scally Tu\u2019i, has been selected to compete at the School Sport Australia Championships.<\/p>\n
She has earned a place in the School Sport Victoria 12 years and under touch football team.<\/p>\n
The championships, held in Canberra in October, offers students the opportunity to participate in higher levels of sporting competition against others from across the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am happy and surprised and feel lucky to make it into the Victorian team,\u201d Kendra said.<\/p>\n
Sheridan Scally, her mother said she has been playing touch for almost four years.<\/p>\n
\u201cKendra is a very fast sprinter which is why she took up the game, she also plays tackle rugby and used to be a netballer,\u201d Ms Scally said.<\/p>\n
Kendra said she would like to play professionally when she is older and wants to cross over into playing rugby.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy long-term dream is to play in the Australian women’s national rugby sevens team,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Training in Melbourne\u2019s eastern suburbs takes up most of the family\u2019s time each Sunday Ms Scally said.<\/p>\n
Between training sessions her coach gives Kendra drills and skills she has to practice 100 times each in front of a video camera.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen I send the video back to my coach, that\u2019s like my homework for the week,\u201d Kendra said.<\/p>\n
Kendra will travel with the team by plane to Canberra while Ms Scally and the rest of the family will drive up together.<\/p>\n
Delacombe Primary School is holding a small fundraiser and has donated $100 towards the Kendra\u2019s costs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
