Law On Lydiard\u2019s principal, Paul Cott, launches podcast aimed at creating better understanding of the aspects of the law.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A NEW podcast featuring Ballarat lawyer Paul Cott isn\u2019t about helping you to argue your case in front of QCs and High Court justices.<\/p>\n

Rather the point of the podcast, Lydiard Law<\/em>, is simple. It\u2019s about educating people who might not have a lot of understating about laws in specific areas, so they make better decisions.<\/p>\n

That approach reflected in the style of the podcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe come up with questions and then it\u2019s in an interview style, question and answer,\u201d Mr Cott said. \u201cEach answer goes for two or three minutes and each episode is about 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe questions aren\u2019t pitched at lawyers, they are for the person in the street and about giving them the basics on the areas of law that we talk about.\u201d<\/p>\n

Practicing out of the Lynn\u2019s Chambers on Lydiard Street South, Mr Cott has decades of experience in employment law and a strong interest in other areas like commercial and building disputes, as well as teaching at the College of Law.<\/p>\n

The topics covered on the podcast are as varied as Mr Cott\u2019s areas of practice.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve done employment law, domestic building contracts, and wills,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Lydiard Law<\/em> is produced by Chris Ashmore who has previously made podcasts for Officeworks, the Melbourne Food and Wine festival and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.<\/p>\n

A fan of podcasts himself, Mr Cott got the idea for Lydiard Law<\/em> after looking around for Australian legal productions and not being able to find many.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m almost 100 per cent sure that no lawyer in Ballarat has done a podcast before,\u201d he said. \u201cIn fact there aren\u2019t many lawyers in Victoria who do them.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just something a bit unique, something different and something that stands out.\u201d<\/p>\n
