{"id":64826,"date":"2019-10-30T12:57:30","date_gmt":"2019-10-30T01:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=64826"},"modified":"2019-10-30T12:57:30","modified_gmt":"2019-10-30T01:57:30","slug":"a-feast-of-fabric-and-colour-at-quilters-expo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/a-feast-of-fabric-and-colour-at-quilters-expo\/","title":{"rendered":"A feast of fabric and colour at Quilters\u2019 expo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MISLEADING or deceiving someone is often referred to as leading them down the garden path.<\/p>\n<p>This is definitely not the case with the <em>Down the Garden Path<\/em> Exhibition of a collection of quilts made by the Ballaarat Quilters.<\/p>\n<p>Jen Mitchell, Ballaarat Quilters president, said there will be an array of traditional, contemporary and art quilts made the members on display.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a beautiful quilt <em>Meadow<\/em>, created from a pattern by quilt designer Michelle McKillop, which we are raffling to raise funds for the new Paediatric Ward at Ballarat Health Services,\u201d Ms Mitchell said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe little grandson of one of our members is fighting cancer and we wanted to support the family in some way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur members have been sewing together for 24 years and have a long history of making and donating quilts to worthy local causes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Together with the quilts made by the members there will be a display from the Australian Quilt and Textile Collection, an initiative of the Lions Club Quilters of Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>Their aim is to raise funds to establish a permanent Quilt and Textile Collection for the Australian community and for the tourist industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been fortunate enough to sponsor an acquisition to be added to the collection which will be on display over the weekend,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Ballaarat Quilters aim is to promote and support interest and knowledge in all forms of quilting.<\/p>\n<p>The group meet on the evening of the first Wednesday each month and sit and sew together on the second and fourth Saturday of each month at the Lions Club Hall at the rear of Pennyweight Park, 222 Otway Street, Ballarat East.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also aim to promote friendship among members and to support and encourage innovation and new ideas in quilt making,\u201d Ms Mitchell said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Down the Garden Path<\/em> exhibition by Ballaarat Quilters Inc is at St Patrick\u2019s Community Hall, 3 Lyons Street South, Ballarat on Saturday,2 November from 10am to 5pm and Sunday, 3 November from 10am to 4pm.
