{"id":65423,"date":"2019-11-21T05:59:10","date_gmt":"2019-11-20T18:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=65423"},"modified":"2019-11-20T13:35:28","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T02:35:28","slug":"new-track-ripe-for-rushing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/new-track-ripe-for-rushing\/","title":{"rendered":"New track ripe for Rushing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A SEA of blue and yellow jerseys rolled around Marty Busch Reserve on Sunday morning to bring in a new cycling era.<\/p>\n<p>Ballarat-Sebastopol Rush BMX Club\u2019s new all-weather Sic Surface track was officially opened by President Rob Pompe, Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle and City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor before a day of competition.<\/p>\n<p>Funded by the State government, the $200,000 track upgrade received the most votes from the community in the Pick My Project initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Reaping the rewards of a state-of-the-art facility, Mr Pompe said the whole process has been \u201csensational.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started about 10 years ago here, and it was just a dirt track. It\u2019s been a long haul, but the track\u2019s changed, it\u2019s been redeveloped, we\u2019ve got the containers&#8230; now we\u2019re here today with Sic Surface,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe track has been completely resurfaced with a really hard road aggregate. There are bitumen berms which makes the track ridable 365 days of the year, so we don\u2019t have to worry about weather at all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got a lot of little kids coming through the ranks. I think we\u2019ve more than doubled our membership since we started this, so it\u2019s been a huge job and we\u2019ve worked tirelessly to get this where it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_65425\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65425\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-65425\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2019\/11\/DSC_0142-for-web-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-65425\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ballarat Rush President Rob Pompe, Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle and City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor officially open the track.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ms Settle said the launch day was \u201cincredibly exciting\u201d having been a part of the project for a year and a half.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I first came here to the track, there was a gorgeous old truck, and when it was wet, the truck would have to come out and smooth the track so people could ride,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo see it now is really just wonderful. It was fantastic to see that the community got behind this project, it really was a choice of the people and I think they made a perfect choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by the This Girl Can and Change Our Game campaigns, Ballarat-Sebastopol Rush hosted the last of four Move it with BMX sessions on Saturday, encouraging women and girls to try a new sport and get active.<\/p>\n<p>This program was also recently nominated by the City of Ballarat for a Positive Lifestyles for Women and Girls award.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A SEA of blue and yellow jerseys rolled around Marty Busch Reserve on Sunday morning to bring in a new cycling era.
