{"id":66434,"date":"2020-01-12T05:55:19","date_gmt":"2020-01-11T18:55:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=66434"},"modified":"2020-01-12T09:32:28","modified_gmt":"2020-01-11T22:32:28","slug":"woady-warriors-want-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/woady-warriors-want-you\/","title":{"rendered":"Woady Warriors want you"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW junior football side in the Woady Yaloak area has been established and the team is on the lookout for new recruits.<\/p>\n<p>Known as Woady Yaloak FNC, or just the Woady Warriors, the club has been cleared to field two sides in the upcoming Ballarat Junior Football League\u2019s Western Bulldogs under 9s comp.<\/p>\n<p>Club president Adam Liversage said the Warriors were born out of a need for more kids\u2019 sport options in the north of Golden Plains Shire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019d been coordinating Auskick in this area for a while and parents were asking why there was no junior football club in this area,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI approached Golden Plains Shire about the possibility of a Haddon club and it\u2019s grown into the Woady Yaloak catchment area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCovering the Woady Yaloak area means we can offer something where there is no junior sport, or at least football and netball. It\u2019s about extra opportunities for our kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66436\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66436\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-66436 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/01\/A02I2066-for-web-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66436\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The region\u2019s newest football netball club, Woady Warriors, are currently recruiting for the under 9s comp in the upcoming BJFL 2020 season.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While the club is aiming to get a couple of sides on the park for the under 9s in 2020 under a special invitation from the BJFL, there\u2019s hope they can grow their program.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s something the people behind the Woady Warriors have had success with before, taking the Haddon Auskick program from under 20 kids to over 60 in five years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe BFNL will be looking closely at our footy club over the next 12 months and how we operate and get involved and hopefully if we\u2019re successful with numbers and our approach to the league we\u2019ll push for a proper invitation to the under 9s again,\u201d Mr Liversage said.<\/p>\n<p>At this stage the club will train at the Haddon Recreation Reserve and but when it comes time to host their round of the Friday night under 9s comp, the games will be played under the lights of Woady Yaloak Recreation Facility in Smythesdale.<\/p>\n<p>Preparations for the season ahead are well underway with a team logo confirmed and strip set to be unveiled soon.<\/p>\n<p>As a FNC, the Woady Warriors will be aiming to deliver a netball program as well.<\/p>\n<p>To begin with they\u2019ll be supporting Ready Net Go in Haddon Stadium, once the new floor is in place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to run it in line with Auskick this season,\u201d Mr Liversage said. \u201cNetball Victoria are getting behind it and supporting it as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope to have netball sides in 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66438\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66438\" style=\"width: 234px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-66438\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/01\/download.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"234\" height=\"215\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66438\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Woady Warriors new logo.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ballarat Football Netball League operations manager Shane Anwyl welcomed the new club and said there was opportunity in the space the Warriors are seeking to occupy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey can differentiate themselves from the old Smythesdale Bulldogs but also capture that whole region,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve got some good people there with Adam Liversage. He\u2019s certainly got some good ideas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey approached us about entering the Ballarat junior competition, which we then spoke to them about some criteria that they need to put in place to ensure their long-term viability, which they are on track to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of getting ready for the upcoming season, the Woady Warriors will be holding a come and try day on Sunday, 9 February between 10am and 12pm at the Haddon Recreation Reserve for both netball and under 9s football.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW junior football side in the Woady Yaloak area has been established and the team is on the lookout for new recruits.
