ACTION in Volleyball Ballarat’s 2020 Mixed Social Competition kicked off this week with some of the most competitive games seen for some time.<\/p>\n
In the opening match on centre court, last year\u2019s third placed finalists Bengali took on 7 Deadly Sins, a new team comprising a number of up and coming players from Daylesford.<\/p>\n
Despite Bengali recruiting the imposing figure of Anthony Pearce in the off season and winning the first set, they couldn’t prevent big hitters Liam Holding and Henry Murnane from dominating the second and third sets, eventually losing a tight contest 1-2.<\/p>\n
In the night’s other major upset the 2019 Premiers Phantoms, playing without their captain and spiritual leader Ben Hassell, suffered a shock defeat to Buffaloes in straight sets.<\/p>\n
Two newly formed teams entering the competition this season both managed impressive first up wins with VB Gold battling hard to eventually overcome Slammers in four close sets, while VB Black team defeated BCC Baboons 3-0.<\/p>\n
The final match saw perennial finalists White knights and Nemesis continue their rivalry with 2019 runners up White Knights eventually prevailing 3-0.<\/p>\n
