Spokesperson Melissa Gillett said the event was more than just for man\u2019s best friend.<\/p>\nFOUR-legged fun returns to Inverleigh this Sunday with the annual Dachshund Derby set for the Sporting Complex.<\/p>\n
While sausage dogs are the stars of the day, competitions are open to any pupper that stands less than 30 centimetres high at the shoulder, while pooches of all sizes are welcome to come down and peruse their peers.<\/p>\n
Spokesperson Melissa Gillett said the event was more than just for man\u2019s best friend.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s for all ages but the adults enjoy it just as much as the children that get involved,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s all about people and their animals and getting out and having some fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
That fun runs all day with events like races for Dachshunds and all comers, fancy dress, cutest puppy, as well as many more.<\/p>\n
There are ribbons for first to third place across the events and trophies for the Dachshund and all breeds races. Also on offer are a wide range of manly pet focused market stalls.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a dog caf\u00e9 that does puppychinos and biscuits,\u201d Ms Gillett said. \u201cThere\u2019s a lady that makes harnesses and dog beds, and we have a dog wash coming, so you can have your pooch pampered on the day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now in it\u2019s ninth year, the Derby was set up, and has been maintained, by a group of volunteers who are dedicated to the breed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was created by a group of friends who all had a love of Dachshunds,\u201d Ms Gillett said. \u201cThey just felt that it would be a fun activity, and now it\u2019s turned into quite a big event. It\u2019s something that\u2019s grown over the years.\u201d<\/p>\n
