WITH more than four hundred and sixty Victorians living with motor-neurone disease, the Walk to D\u2019feet MND event is taking its first steps in Ballarat.<\/p>\n

Held on Sunday, 1 March at Pleasant Street Primary School, the inaugural walk will take participants around Lake Wendouree to raise awareness and funds for the disease.<\/p>\n

All donations on the day are given directly to MND Victoria, who use the money to provide care, support and equipment for people living with motor-neurone disease.<\/p>\n

MND Victoria community events manager Daniel Woodrow said the walks help for people to share their experiences as a community.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese events are a great way for people affected by the disease to come together, you can be there in memory of loved ones or in honour of those living with it now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018Walk to D\u2019feet MND\u2019 has been going for 17 years in Melbourne and has recently branched out to regional areas such as Geelong, Bendigo and Benalla.<\/p>\n

Event spokesperson Jamie Govan said it\u2019s great to see regional areas being included in charity walks like this one.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s all about raising awareness,\u201d he said. \u201cThe number of people who have been affected by MND in Ballarat is astounding.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the day, participants will walk the 6km trek around Lake Wendouree and score a free t-shirt upon registration.<\/p>\n

Cyclists can also help to raise money on the day through \u2018Rob\u2019s Ride\u2019, a bike-riding event in memory of Robert Pitman, a local rider who passed away from MND in 2019.<\/p>\n
