THE City of Ballarat had launched a new public awareness campaign titled Be Kind Ballarat in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

Speaking outside town hall on Wednesday, mayor Cr Ben Taylor said the initiative was about helping everyone get through current challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we\u2019ve looked at what\u2019s been happening over the last few weeks it\u2019s been pretty confronting,\u201d he said. \u201cFor me even going to the supermarket the other night just to get some basics was really difficult to do.<\/p>\n

\u201cBallarat is one of the most live-able cities in Australia and we are like that because we are good to each other and we want to reinforce this Be Kind Ballarat to everyone.<\/p>\n

“When you\u2019re at the supermarket looking to buy some goods, well, maybe think about the next person who might need this. Let\u2019s think about being kind to those people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leading the campaign was the reinstatement of limited free parking in areas subject to the recently rolled out Smarter Parking Plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Paid parking in zone one, will now be free between 11am and 3pm from tomorrow, Thursday, 19 March for an indefinite period.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one needs to use the parking meters, touch the parking meters,\u201d said City of Ballarat Justine Linley.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really encouraging people to get out and about, enjoy the weather while we can and also shop locally, being respectful of people locally and local businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n

As part of the Be Kind Ballarat push residents are urged to shop local, visit local attractions when possible and generally enjoy the quality of life offered in the Ballarat region.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s being kind to yourself, being kind to your staff and being kind to businesses in Ballarat,\u201d Ms Linley said.<\/p>\n

Cr Taylor also said while some municipal services had been shut down, other key functions were still being undertaken.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though we\u2019ve made some pretty drastic measures on Monday around closures of facilities, the City of Ballarat is still operating,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though it might not be face-to-face like it has been in the past a lot of the services are still going. Planning is happening, event customer service is just over the phone.<\/p>\n

\u201cWaste service are still getting collected. The transfer station is still open\u2026 our economic development team, our visitor team as well, they\u2019re still operating because they still need to be involved in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
