{"id":68847,"date":"2020-05-21T04:50:12","date_gmt":"2020-05-20T17:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=68847"},"modified":"2020-06-17T16:23:33","modified_gmt":"2020-06-17T06:23:33","slug":"keeping-cricket-open-for-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/keeping-cricket-open-for-all\/","title":{"rendered":"Keeping cricket open for all"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW cricket program will soon be encouraging players of all skill levels to bowl, bat and field.<\/p>\n<p>Developed by the North Ballarat Cricket Club, the Ballarat All Abilities Cricket Program is for those with any form of disability who want to play.<\/p>\n<p>The club hopes to have the BAACP up and running from November through February and will be open to disabled people over the age of 16.<\/p>\n<p>Director of cricket Adam Eddy said the initiative aims to provide an \u201coutlet\u201d for disabled people later in the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEspecially in Ballarat and the wider region, people with disabilities don\u2019t really have a sport to play in the summer,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really excited to get this program off the ground, it\u2019ll be the only program of its kind in Ballarat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The program will be structured in a round-robin format, allowing teams of six or seven to take to the pitch.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will be trained by the club\u2019s coaches and volunteer network and will be provided opportunities to develop their skills with the North Ballarat Roosters.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Eddy said disabilities should not hold anyone back from competing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis program is open to everyone, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, we just want everyone to take part and have some fun,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>North Ballarat has also announced that a team will be selected from the BAACP to compete in the Melbourne All Abilities Cricket Association.<\/p>\n<p>The MAACA organises matches with modified rules to include those who might not be able to take part in the regular cricket season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will also be hosting some tryout sessions for the MAACA squad directly, so that people from outside Ballarat can come and give it a try if they want,\u201d said Mr Eddy.<\/p>\n<p>For updates on the program, check out the North Ballarat Cricket Club\u2019s Facebook page at <a href=\"http:\/\/facebook.com\/northballaratcc\"><strong>facebook.com\/northballaratcc<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW cricket program will soon be encouraging players of all skill levels to bowl, bat and field.
