National TV show rolls into to town to feature great local life<\/strong><\/p>\n

ROKEWOOD will once again be seen on a national stage after the ABC TV show Back Roads<\/em> visited to film an upcoming episode.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the second time the town has reached beyond the district\u2019s boundaries in recent months after a light-hearted video about keeping fit during lockdown, created by Rokewood Corindhap Football & Netball Club, went viral on social media.<\/p>\n

Back Roads<\/em> features Australian towns and communities that are off the beaten path and seeks to highlight the great things about them.<\/p>\n

The footy club\u2019s video was one of the reasons the show\u2019s producers decided to pick Rokewood.<\/p>\n

Long time A and B Grade netballer with the \u2018Hoppers, Emily Hutchins, said having the town featured across Australia would be good for the club and the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty exciting,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s good that people have noticed. The video was just a bit of a fun thing to do for the club and it went a bit viral.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope it will put Rokewood on the map a bit more so people do come visit it to check out a few of the things that are around the town. If you\u2019re not going in that direction you wouldn\u2019t think to stop here.<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully this gets it on the map a bit more and if you say you played at the club they say, \u2018yeah, I know where Rokewood is now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Hutchins and her family, notably her father Denis Banks – former \u2018Hoppers vice-president and daughter Nell, are featured in the show.<\/p>\n

She said Nell rose to the occasion.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was excited,\u201d Ms Hutchins said. \u201cShe was asking lots of questions and playing the part very well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t actually know if I\u2019m in it, I think I\u2019m sort of in the background.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shearing icon Trevor Kearns was also filmed while Back Roads<\/em> was in town.<\/p>\n

He agreed that the TV show was a great opportunity to tell people about the Rokewood community.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great thing for Rokewood, the community and also the football club,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to put Rokewood on the map once everybody sees the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of city folk wouldn\u2019t understand where Rokewood is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Kerns was featured in the program, in part, due to his more than 50-year career as a sheerer, during which he\u2019s fleeced more than a million sheep.<\/p>\n

He said getting to talk to Back Roads<\/em> presenter Lisa Millar and the TV crew was a positive experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very exciting and the professionalism of the people who did the interview and organisation surprised me,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was very good. They made me feel very comfortable and easy to answer the questions.\u201d<\/p>\n

That enjoyable time with the visiting production crew was echoed by Ms Hutchins.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were really good, really nice, very friendly and lovely,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Rokewood airing during primetime on the ABC isn\u2019t the only recent occasion a town in the Shire has been broadcast across Australia.<\/p>\n

An episode of the SBS program Who Do You Think You Are?<\/em> featuring comedian Denise Scott was partly filmed in Meredith and broadcast on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

The ABC TV\u2019s Back Roads<\/em> episode that\u2019s all about Rokewood is set to air on the broadcaster\u2019s main channel on Monday, 22 June at 8pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
