AFTER eight weeks, the City of Ballarat emergency food relief centre<\/span> at Morsehead Park has closed.<\/p>\n

Mayor Cr Ben Taylor thanked the Ballarat community for the 6500 items donated to the site making 51 deliveries to welfare agencies possible.<\/p>\n

Additionally, over $5000 was raised for the cause including $4000 from the Malayalee Association.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been great to see the City of Ballarat to come together and support the people who really need support,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Moving forward, 3BA\u2019s Winter Appeal will continue to welcome donations to help those in need.<\/p>\n

While still accepting non-perishable food items at the Salvation Army Centre on Eureka Street, general manager John Fitzgibbon said cash donations are preferable at this time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been really hard because we\u2019re not able to accept goods as we have in the past,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re encouraging people to provide cash donations through our website to give flexibility to the organisations to get what they need.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have already provided around 16 pellets of groceries<\/a> and we\u2019re setting up accounts at the supermarkets for charities to purchase what they need.\u201d<\/p>\n

This year, donations to the emergency food relief centre and 3BA\u2019s Winter Appeal are more needed now than ever.<\/p>\n

For those finding it tough this winter Mr Fitzgibbon said that there is support and help out there.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the COVID situation, the strain on some families is unbelievable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I do encourage people to do is reach out to organisations and for families and individuals to not remain isolated.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether it be through the four charities that the appeal supports or other services in the community such as Headspace, there\u2019s nothing wrong with asking for help.\u201d<\/p>\n
