{"id":69769,"date":"2020-07-07T16:11:10","date_gmt":"2020-07-07T06:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=69769"},"modified":"2020-07-07T16:11:10","modified_gmt":"2020-07-07T06:11:10","slug":"covid-second-wave-fears-see-return-of-lockdown-conditions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/covid-second-wave-fears-see-return-of-lockdown-conditions\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID second wave fears see return of lockdown conditions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>METROPOLITAN Melbourne will be sent back into lockdown from tomorrow night on the back of fears of a growing second wave of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>The reimposed restrictions apply to all greater metro Melbourne Municipalities and Mitchell Shire in the city\u2019s northern fringe.<\/p>\n<p>The restrictions do not apply to the City of Ballarat, Golden Plains or Moorabool shires and other areas in regional Victoria, apart from Mitchell Shire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s clear we are on the cusp of our second wave, and we cannot let this virus cut through our communities,\u201d said Premier Daniel Andrews.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s why based on the advice of the Chief Health Officer, Stage 3 Stay at Home restrictions will be reinstated across metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire from 11.59pm on Wednesday, 8 July\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Set to run for six weeks, the restrictions will be the same as previously applied to the whole state, with a few minor changes, limiting the reasons people can leave the house to: shopping for food and essential items, care and caregiving, daily exercise and work and study.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Stay at Home direction will apply to your principal place of residence, that means no escaping to holiday homes,\u201d Mr Andrews said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd because we need to limit the spread of the virus across our state, there will only be three reasons to cross the border of these metropolitan areas: Shopping for food and essential items. Care and caregiving. Work and study \u2013 if you can\u2019t do it from home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnless you\u2019re a local, that means no fishing trips at Lakes Entrance. No four-hour hikes in the Grampians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Andrews said the current restriction in regional Victoria will remain unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor people who live in regional Victoria, where case numbers remain low, current restrictions will remain the same for now,\u201d he said.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve talked about this virus being like a public health bushfire.
