{"id":69899,"date":"2020-07-20T04:55:43","date_gmt":"2020-07-19T18:55:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=69899"},"modified":"2020-07-14T09:10:45","modified_gmt":"2020-07-13T23:10:45","slug":"new-golden-plains-website-to-up-your-veggie-intake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/new-golden-plains-website-to-up-your-veggie-intake\/","title":{"rendered":"New Golden Plains website to up your veggie intake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GOLDEN Growers is the new online hub introduced by the Golden Plains Shire to inspire residents to get familiar with vegetables.<\/p>\n<p>The project aims to provide information and suggestions to increase the municipality\u2019s home grown vegetable intake.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Victorian Population Health Survey, 60 per cent of Golden Plains Shire residents currently do not consume the recommended amount of fresh food.<\/p>\n<p>Noting this, upping the area\u2019s fruit and vegetable consumption is a priority within the municipality\u2019s larger health and wellbeing plan.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said he encourages residents to take advantage of the new online resource and reap the rewards of eating home-grown food.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that eating vegetables is great for our health,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are a fantastic source of many vitamins and minerals and consuming a wide variety of vegetables is a protective measure in preventing diseases such as high cholesterol, type two diabetes and heart disease.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the help from community submissions and the Shire\u2019s partners, the Golden Growers website hopes to feature \u2018how to\u2019 videos and resources on growing, preparing and cooking with a variety of vegetables.<\/p>\n<p>The Shire is also calling for local green thumbs to share their tips and tricks on growing fruit and vegetables in a bid to improve residents&#8217; access by growing their own.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project is all about making it easier to grow and incorporate vegetables into your meals at home by providing a platform for the community to share their knowledge,\u201d Cr Sharkey said.<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">The Golden Growers page can be found at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldenplains.vic.gov.au\/residents\/my-family\/healthy-families\/golden-growers\"><b>goldenplains.vic.gov.au\/goldengrower<\/b><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">Residents with a vegetable-packed recipe that they would like to share can contact the Health and Wellbeing team at\u00a0<b>5220 7111<\/b>\u00a0or email\u00a0<b>GPSHealthandWellbeing@gplains.vic.gov.au<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GOLDEN Growers is the new online hub introduced by the Golden Plains Shire to inspire residents to get familiar with vegetables.
