VICTORIAN Premier Daniel Andrews has announced that the requirement people wear face coverings when outside that home has been expanded across the State.<\/p>\n

The move comes as a record single day increase of 723 new cases of COVID-19 were detected and 13 deaths.<\/p>\n

Face coverings will now be compulsory from 11.59pm on Sunday, 2 August when outside the home.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast week, and based on the latest in scientific study, we announced that face coverings would be mandatory in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire,\u201d said Mr Andrews.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, and in line with the advice of the chief health officer, I can announce that same requirement will apply across regional Victoria.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand this will a big step for some. But by covering your face, you\u2019re protecting your community, and protecting those extra freedoms your community enjoys.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy covering your face, you\u2019re keeping local businesses open, and keeping local people in work.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not the only changes to COVID-19 rules Mr Andrews announced.<\/p>\n

From tonight, residents in Golden Plains, Moorabool, Colac-Otway, and Surf Coast shires, and the City of Greater Geelong, as well as the Borough of Queenscliffe will no longer be allowed visitors in their homes, or to visit other people\u2019s homes.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnderstandably, there\u2019ll be plenty of questions about why this and not that. Why you can have dinner together at a restaurant \u2013 but not at a mate\u2019s place,\u201d Mr Andrews said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the simple truth is, the data. The data is telling us that outside work, this is the single greatest cause of transmission in these communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are visiting friends and family \u2013 and taking the virus home with them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand that many Victorians will be feeling equal parts frustrated, tired and sad. I am too.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re clearly a long way from where we wanted to be.\u201d<\/p>\n
